Chris finds working on SVU, a network show, "much more restrictive in style and content" than working on Oz (Mar 7 2000). He also says that he couldn't handle prison life or Stabler's job on SVU (Dec 25 2002). The actual shooting time takes longer for an episode of SVU than it took for an episode of Oz, because SVU "is shot differently and because of exteriors" (Aug 13 2000). On SVU, Chris gets about a week between receiving a script and the start of filming that episode (Aug 20 2000) and there is generally a "12-hour turnaround" between shooting late one evening and starting again the next day (June 10 2000). He described a typical shooting day on Oz and SVU: "Call times vary but I start on average at 6 or 7. Oz is about a 12-hour day, with a lot of hanging around and then rushing to get the shot. SVU is about a 15-hour day, with a few down moments for lighting" (June 12 2000). A fan asked whether SVU typically uses cranes for lighting scenes. Chris said, "Ya need the big lights for the night shots. It gives a great, diffused ambience, not to mention just plain ol' light" (Apr 3 2001). When he was shooting Season 5 of Oz, Chris says, "I had to go directly from SVU to Oz. Very tough to switch gears" (Oct 23 2001). After the set of Oz was moved to Bayonne, New Jersey, Chris described the process of getting to the new location as "a fucking bitch" (Feb 3 2002). When asked whether he would ever again want to have another "part-time" acting job in addition to his full-time SVU job, Chris said, "Dear God…um…if it's really, really good. But since I'm really, really busy, so damn busy, in fact it'd be tough" (June 13 2000). About his castmates, Chris says, "I'm very tight with a few people from both shows and I genuinely love and admire most of the others" (Apr 1 2001). A fan asked whether there's been "one ensemble" cast where "the bonding seemed particularly close" between the actors. Chris responded, "It's happening with Oz and SVU" (Apr 26 2000).
