Abilities Football Basketball Baseball Boxing Other Sports Last Words ABILITIES When in high school and college, Chris played "football, basketball and baseball" (Jan 20 2005). Even today, he continues to stay active. For instance, when on vacation, Chris says, "I need to move, I need something to do - physical" (Dec 14 2000). Chris is a "lousy swimmer" (June 26 2000), golfs "badly" (Dec 14 2000) and is a bad skier, even though he went to school in Colorado. He blames it on not having enough money to ski at the time (Dec 8 1999; Apr 15 2004). Chris water-skis (July 7 2000; Apr 26 2005) and used to know how to ice skate (Jan 26 2001). He is contractually prohibited from skiing (Dec 14 2000) and skydiving (Jan 26 2001). Extreme sports are something that Chris has tried, but they now "hold little interest" for him (Oct 1 2000). He would be willing to give cricket "a try. Gotta say, I've never heard anyone be able to explain the game to me. That would be the challenge…I actually think the people who play it have no idea what the rules are" (Apr 8 2004). FOOTBALL Christopher's favourite sport is football (although he also loves extreme fighting) (Nov 4 2004; Mar 20 2005). If he had to be stuck reliving one memory from childhood, he would choose to relive a memory of playing a "pick-up football game" (Nov 13 2001). He "can't remember really" who his superheroes were when he was a child, but says, "The closest were probably football players" (Aug 13 2001). A football was the greatest Christmas gift he received as a child (Dec 8 1999) and he has memorabilia from high school football, when his team went undefeated (Aug 23 2000). Chris has broken a toe playing football with no shoes on (Dec 8 1999) and prefers real grass to Astroturf (Feb 7 2000). His favourite college football team is the Colorado Buffaloes (Feb 2 2005). His favourite pro-football team is the Washington Redskins (Mar 4 2000; Oct 19 2000). If he were in charge of that team, he would "get rid of the owner, trade for linesmen and draft a quarterback" (Oct 9 2001), preferably "Kurt Warner" or "Peyton" (Oct 12 2001). Sophia has not told Chris her "preference yet" regarding her favourite football team, but "she won’t be a Cowboys fan if she wants me paying for her college tuition" (Apr 14 2001). BASKETBALL Christopher doesn't play as much basketball as he'd like (Mar 14 2002), but that's what he plays when he has time off (June 22 2003). His basketball tip is "learn to pass" (Apr 5 2005). He likes to watch "the play-offs or any good college" basketball game (Sept 7 2004). His favourite basketball teams are the Wizards and the Knicks (Mar 2 2000). Not only is he a Knicks fan (May 21 2001), but he also goes to Knicks games (Nov 16 2004). The return of Michael Jordan to basketball was "great for the game, great for him and best for the Wizards" (Oct 8 2001; Oct 9 2001). BASEBALL Christopher played on his high school baseball team (Mar 30 2000). Although his favourite baseball team is the Orioles, Chris only likes watching the World Series (Mar 30 2000). On Alex Rodriguez’s $252 million baseball contract with the Texas Rangers: "God bless him. I don’t see how it benefits baseball" (Apr 4 2001). BOXING Boxing is special, in Christopher's opinion, because it is "primitive instinct and baseness refined into a brutal art - it's the sweet science" (Jan 12 2001). Some of that sweet science is being lost because "boxing gets closer and closer to freak show entertainment, and becomes less and less of a sport, every time heavyweights slip on the gloves" (Nov 6 2000). Chris's favourite pro boxers are "Jack Johnson, Rocky Marciano, Marvin Hagler, the Sugar Rays, Joe Frazier, Ali, Holyfield, Tyson, Tapia and Vargas" (Oct 19 2000). If there were matches between Tyson and Ali or Foreman, with each boxer being in his prime, Chris says, "Oddly enough, I think Tyson would have beaten Ali, but lost to Foreman" (Nov 14 2003). OTHER SPORTS Of the sports at the Olympics, Chris loves "the ping pong, weightlifting and boxing - they only ever show boxing" (Sept 17 2000). Christopher's favourite hockey teams are the Capitols and the Rangers (Dec 6 2001) and he has "slowly learned to appreciate" soccer (Mar 20 2005). Chris is "not really interested" in racing or attending the Indy 500 (Apr 5 2005). He has been invited to the Kentucky Derby "ever since I became 'famous' - just can't find the time to get down there" (Apr 26 2005). LAST WORDS In sports in general, Christopher says that there is "too much bad sportsmanship and showboating for my taste" (May 18 2001). Last updated: March 04/06 | ||
