Tattoos

Christopher has two tattoos: one of a butterfly very high on his upper thigh and one on his upper left arm that is a Cubist representation of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. He is currently planning on getting a third, but is "not telling" of what or where it will be (Oct 12 2001; Mar 20 2005). However, he has mentioned that if he were to get a new tattoo, he'd consider placing it on his ankle or thigh (Nov 5 2000).

As of March 28 2000, he had had the butterfly tattoo for 20 years and the Christ tattoo for three years. He doesn’t think that he had the Christ tattoo when he made The Souler Opposite (Apr 10 2001).

Chris got the first tattoo of the butterfly "just 'cause" and somewhat ruefully explains its meaning: "It means get a tat only when YOU are really ready for a tat of the design you want from the person you wanna get it from" (May 22 2002). The butterfly's colouring has not faded over time (Feb 12 2001).

More thought went into the Christ tattoo which he got because "a voice in my head said so" (Sept 16 2000). It took "took two years to mull over, two days to sketch out and two hours to do" (Sept 12 2000). Chris says, "No hurting was accomplished in the tattooing" (June 22 2003) and that he "took it seriously" when he went to have it done (Mar 28 2000).

The Christ tattoo represents "commitment to what you believe. To have the courage of what you believe, to have faith and to be willing to sacrifice for what you believe" (Mar 3 2000) and it is also "an affirmation of believing, sacrifice, faith and commitment" (Mar 28 2000). Post-September 11, Chris finds that the tattoo still represents "sacrificing yourself for what you believe. Unfortunately, in these days of fanatical suicide bombers, the idea seems to be a little perverted" (Apr 2 2004).

The Christ tattoo was designed by Chris himself, but it is coincidentally very similar to a drawing on the cover of Psychotica's debut album (Aug 27 2000).

Christopher sports a United States Marine Corps tattoo on his forearm in Law and Order: SVU (Dec 27 1999). The USMC tattoo is not real; it's for character purposes only (Dec 27 1999). Chris says that "it’s a transfer and the make-up girls have a good eye on where to place it" (May 18 2001).

Chris has said for some time now that he's planning on getting another tattoo, but is "not telling" what it will be (Oct 12 2001). However, he has mentioned that if he were to get a new tattoo, he'd consider placing it on his "ankles and/or thigh" (Nov 5 2000).

He doesn't "get the body-piercing thing" except for his ears (Nov 5 2000).

Christopher's advice on getting a tattoo is to "know what you want to say and get a great artist" (Aug 10 2000).
