General Attitude Dreams North America The Caribbean Islands Europe Asia GENERAL ATTITUDE Christopher is an avid traveler. His favourite places in the world are "Bali. Turkey. NYC. Any white clean beach with great waves" (Mar 7 2000) and he says that Bali is the most amazing place he's ever visited, commenting, "The people and the place seemed very peaceful" (Nov 4 2004). However, Chris's favourite place to visit is Italy (Sept 28 2003). He's has some unusual experiences while abroad. A fan described participating in a wedding ceremony and a ritual that involved making offerings to the dead, and asked if Chris had similar stories to recount from his travels. Chris replied, "A lot of those things were experienced in Bali and Turkey: cockfights, weddings and funeral processions" (Nov 7 2001). He confirms that, while on vacation, he has enjoyed putting on a sarong and trying traditional island dances: "I did like it, even if they did laugh at me" (Aug 13 2001). Before Christopher got married, he traveled solo (May 17 2000). Now, when packing, Sherman starts and Chris checks off (Jan 19 2001). When on vacation, Chris says he needs to move and needs something physical to do (Dec 14 2000). Chris also needs his own bathroom when traveling and prefers to mingle with locals (May 17 2000). He used to keep a journal when on his travels but "these days, the only things I write are notes on the scripts we're doing" (Apr 3 2001). To pass the time on long air flights, Chris plays computerized chess or reads (Aug 13 2001). He deals with jet-lag by choosing to "drink a lot of booze and flirt with the flight attendants" (Nov 16 2004). On airplanes, Chris prefers to have the aisle seat, rather than the window seat (Jan 19 2001). His favourite airport is the National in D.C. (Aug 15 2000) and he specifies that he means the old airport, not the new one (June 1 2001). DREAMS Christopher has said that he would next like to travel "doing the London, Paris, Africa thing" (Mar 28 2000) and that on the top of his list of "to be visited" places are "Italy, Sri Lanka and the Bronx" (Nov 16 2004). He is also interested in traveling to South America (May 22 2000). Chris is very interested in Israel, but has never been there because it is "too volatile" for him (Sept 26 2002). He has also never been to Australia, but says "one of my better friends here is from Sydney and he's always bragging on the place" (Sept 7 2004). Chris has never been to Alaska, but says that it is "on the short list of cold places to go" (Aug 1 2004). NORTH AMERICA In Canada, Chris has visited Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal (Aug 10 2000). Chris prefers big cities and has little interest in being back in the D.C. area (Aug 2 2000), saying that he goes back to D.C. "once a year, maybe" (May 18 2001). He also found Virginia to be "too suburban for my taste" (Feb 26 2004). Christopher has said that he’s been to Aspen "five times in my life" (May 18 2001). As of October 9, 2002, Chris had not been back to Colorado for 18 years. Chris has been to Texas (Feb 27 2004) and has family in Fort Worth (Feb 26 2004). Chris far prefers where he lives now: New York City. He calls New York the "greatest city in the U.S.A." (Apr 26 2005) and a "melting pot and alive with the energy of A-types, all trying to make their mark" (Sept 8 2004). Before moving to New York after college, Chris had never been to the city, but he says he knew he had to live there "the first time I got there. It was like an electric shock - a very clichéd moment" (Aug 20 2000). During Christmastime, the thing about New York that Chris really likes is how "the streets become quiet" (Jan 14 2000). He's gone over to Staten Island, but only "to do bad things" (Oct 1 2000). Northern California is one of Christopher's favourite destinations in the U.S. (June 26 2000); he's been there "a few times. What a drive and I love San Francisco. Sexy town. Would like to go further north someday" (Jan 24 2005). What he likes best about San Francisco is its "East coast meets West coast" feel and that "in between, it’s very sexy" (Apr 20 2005). Chris has visited a few national parks, explaining, "I hiked part of the John Muir trail, went to a few around the four corner states - that was cool. Hiked the Grand Canyon" (Jan 24 2005). He has also spent time in Utah "near Moab" (Apr 20 2005). When he's traveled to Florida, he's had "a bruising and wild time every time I've been - from Walton beach to Miami" (July 24 2000). He has visited Maine, describing it as having "big mosquitoes and a nice coastline" (Aug 4 2000). He has also been to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, but "unfortunately, I was sick, so I didn't drink" (Aug 9 2000). THE CARIBBEAN ISLANDS Chris has vacationed in Jamaica and advised a fan to visit Negril and to see the waterfalls there (Apr 17 2000). He also has been to the Cayman Islands and swam with the stingrays there (Aug 1 2004). For the holiday season of 2004, Chris and his family "went to the islands" (Jan 24 2005). They traveled to "Antigua" and "Eleuthera (in the Bahamas)" (Feb 27 2004). Of the Bahamian part of the trip, Chris says, "I hated where I stayed and loved the beaches. Not a fan of the scrubby nature of the island. Loved Harbor Island" (Apr 15 2004). EUROPE On Chris's first trip to Europe, he didn't get to go to England (May 17 2000) and said that he regretted "never having been to London" (Oct 9 2002). Chris managed to rectify that by September 21, 2003, when he mentioned that he had traveled to London, which he called a "great, great town" (Mar 20 2005). Chris has been to France many times and experienced his first European fan recognition there (Apr 2 2004). On his first trip to France, he did not get to visit Tours, but found that his favourite place was the castle at Beynac (May 17 2000). Visiting the Massif Central region of France took up "a bulk of my time" (May 18 2000). Chris visited Berlin right after the wall came down and has also been to Hamburg (July 3 2000). As of October 1, 2000, Chris and Sherman "definitely" planned to visit Spain in the future. A fan asked what Chris most likes about Amsterdam, admitting, "I'm fond of the hash bars myself." Chris replied, "I love everything about Amsterdam. Everything (nudge nudge, wink wink)" (Dec 14 2000). Chris has visited Sicily (Sept 21 2003), "near Teramina" (Sept 7 2004). If Chris could pick any European city to live in, he would choose Florence (Jan 12 2005) and if he could take his children to live in any country outside the U.S., he would choose Italy (Apr 5 2005). ASIA Chris has traveled to Hong Kong and says it's "a big capitalist rock" (July 30 2000). He's never been to Bora Bora (May 18 2001). Of all the places he and Sherman have visited together, Bali was the most romantic (Oct 1 2000). Chris describes the most unusual thing that has happened to him while traveling: "Being wildly thrown about in a speeding boat through stormy seas from one Thai island to another. The boat being driven by a head-to-toe burn victim wearing a crash helmet and me gashing my leg open and nearly losing my lunch from the rough sea" (Apr 26 2005). Last updated: March 04/06 | ||
