In "Leaving L.A.," Meloni stars as Reed Simms, the top coroner's investigator, who brings a positive and life-affirming perspective to the Coroner's office. In real life, Meloni brings a little first-hand experience to the series. He actually worked as a surgical orderly during summers in high school, and, on occasion, was assigned to the morgue. When he saw his first body, an actual acquaintance, he deadpanned: "What are you doing here?"

Meloni was born and raised in the Washington, D.C., area. He went to college at the University of Colorado in Boulder, where he first enrolled in some acting classes. Upon graduation, he cycled home to D.C., where he took a job in construction. Inspired by a schoolmate who was heading to New York to study acting, Meloni put down his hammer, packed a duffel bag, a typewriter and a case of tuna fish, and headed toward his future. He studied at The Neighborhood Playhouse and got his first big break as the lead in the comedy series, "The Fanelli Boys."

In feature films, Meloni garnered raves for his performance in Gramercy Pictures' cult hit, "Bound." His other film credits include featured roles in "Twelve Monkeys" and "Junior." He will also appear in the upcoming romantic comedy, "The Souler Opposite," as a struggling comedian who finds love, loses it and surprises everyone in the end; and "The Small Hours," an ensemble exploration of the lives of the men who visit a tattoo parlor. Meloni has also written his own original screenplay, "Drowning in L.A.," a dark comedy about a struggling actor who loses his mind.
